unfettered alchemy of musical mastery and mischief
when Nico Rhodes was in grade 4, Rick Scott played a concert at his school. When Nico was 23, he arranged Rick’s music for symphony. Now they’re touring to standing ovations as the inter-generational duo of ROOTS & GROOVES, an alchemy of musical mastery and mischief
spiced with humour and loving kindness.
a ‘countrified’ singer / songwriter he spins tales as tall as they come, and the characters are as large as life or larger, a cast of hard-drinking, fast-driving characters who tend to be a shade less hell-bent on self-destruction than they are with keeping their lives between the lines and out of the ditch.
and the musicianship he surrounds himself with will make this a very memorable performance
Scott McGill chose the Cowichan Valley over living in Vancouver some years back and we are the benefactors of that decision... a music teacher at Brentwood, he continuously keeps his own chops up by performing solo, as a duo or with his band Groove Social...
with a vocal range that gives one goosebumps…
be prepared to groove
what do you get when you cross 3 amazing saxophonists dressed in wacky clothes, a crazy dancing drummer and a killer upright bass player and have them sing songs about Buses, Roaches and Hockey and spend 1/2 their time playing in the audience? The Shuffle Demons, that's what!!! They were a band that captured the imagination of a generation with their antics and amazing no holds barred playing and stopped traffic on a regular basis.
And now they're back!!
All of these scheduled musical events are designed to bring community together to celebrate our diverse local / Canadian and international music scenes, to give the opportunity to meet our neighbours, share a common experience and hopefully be able to now greet each other with a friendly smile on any future happen chance connections. We are proving that downtown Duncan and the Cowichan Valley is... ‘a rather fun place to be’.
