WINE DOWN WEDNESDAY 2023

@ The City Square Stage

The decision to keep presenting live music in the city square into the warm evenings of August came about a few years ago in conjunction with the Old Firehouse Wine Bar’s involvement with their outdoor patio crowds that have attended in the past will attest to this being a very good concept so we continue these musical showcases for 2023 on Wednesdays in August.

7pm / 7:30pm / 8:30pm.

Wed. Aug. 9th

7pm - Malakai - A 14 year old singer/songwriter with a huge repertoire brings an extreme talent to the stage and he must be witnessed.

7:30pm - Paul Pigat - One of the most restless, combustible musical imaginations ever crammed like so much canned heat into a single body, blessed with a jazz man’s sheen, a rockabilly heart and a hobo’s soul, there are not many genres of music that don’t pull at Pigat’s wayfaring imagination like a magnet...a do not miss show.

8:30pm - Typsy Gypsy Jazz - Think Stephane Greppelli, Django Reinhardt style traditional jazz, swing, and blues by this trio by islanders, you might lightly kick up your heels a bit.

Wed. Aug. Aug. 16th

7pm - Lip Forest a singer/songwriter from northern Saskatchewan who now calls the valley home sings of life’s journeys and tribulations with a certain spark that makes you want more of what he does.

7:30pm - Jeff Plankenhorn – From Texas, now calling Campbell River home when not on the extensive tour schedule he maintains, his songwriting /storytelling and superb slide playing shine solid whether as a band or as a solo performance.

8:30pm - R. Mason – Bblends soulful songwriting with explorative moods to cook up a project high in tension, desperation, vulnerability.


Wed. Aug. 23rd

7:00pm - Steve Cutler – Local singer/songwriter who needs more people to hear him.

7:30pm - Gerry Barnum - An excellent singer/songwriter, front man and side man for island blues bands or any project requiring a solid harmonica player, a one man act that can get you up dancing.

8:30pm - Lara Wong Quartet - Award winning flautist Lara Wong is one of Spain's up and coming talent in the flamenco and world music scenes. Her flute sings with delicate yet fierce expression and she is an innovator in flamenco- introducing the Indian bansuri flute into flamenco music with technical mastery and creativity.

Wed. Aug. 30th

7:00pm - Anne Schaefer – A mainstay in Victoria she has been playing and writing songs since childhood, she loves magical expression and writes about life and love.

7:30pm - Moonlight Talkers - 2/3rds of PixElle, Cara and Naomi are both superb songwriters that deliver the goods with strong voices and warmth in their heart.

8:30pm - Cheko Y Su Combo - A latin trio that surely will entice you to make moves to the grooves, a brilliant way to bring August to an end.
