39 Days Of July 2023 Schedule

 

All of these scheduled musical events are designed to bring community together to celebrate our diverse local / Canadian and international music scenes, to give the opportunity to meet our neighbours, share a common experience and hopefully be able to now greet each other with a friendly smile on any future happen chance connections. We are proving that downtown Duncan and the Cowichan Valley is... proving once again that we do live in ‘a rather fun place to be’.

 

Friday June 30th - Opening Day Ceremonies

@ THE VITALS STAGE IN THE PARK:

11:45 AM - Welcoming speeches   

Noon  - Dennis & Andy - Some light heartedness to start the festival off, these two work together like real good – their 3rd year as first act.                                                    

1:00 PM  - Chuck McCandless & Guests - A mainstay of folk music, this Irish singer / songwriter boated from Ireland and landed up in Manitoba and who now calls the valley home, was there in the beginnings of the Winnipeg Folk Festival and uses his vocals and long necked banjo in a Pete Seeger -ish kinda way.

2:00 PM - Naomi Payan – A singer/songwriter that always sets the bar high on this opening day slot, listen and find out why we always want her back to our stage.

3:00 PM - Carlson’s Dance - Wonderful displays of youthful dance - first showcase for this year’s festival and then every Friday at 3pm till the festival ends.

4:00 PM – Lindsay MartellA veteran player, singer/songwriter, raised in the Maritimes who after two years of formal music school drifted back to rock, folk, country, rock and roll and blues, working continuously playing in pubs, night clubs and festivals, or wherever he or his band could find a gig. Now living in our valley, a treat for us.

5:00 PM - Zonnis – Powerful vocals with compelling lyrics, from Victoria, this husband and wife touring duo bring it on full folk tilt.

6:00 PM - Lester & Damian - Back again cause they is sooo good, real fine award winning blues based guitarist combining with an extremely unique drummer take us to new places intuitively where no other music dare travel, most enjoyable.

7:00 PM - Karen and the Managers - Recently formed pop/rock and such, this 6 piece band from Victoria brings on the covers we can all dance to.

Noon - Mbira Spirit – Becoming a tradition to have them start Canada Day with an uplifting approach to country styled danceable music for the community.

1:00 PM - Kelly Roxanne Girvan – School teacher by day and night, she also enjoys her own musical journey and continues to pen some fine songs for us to hear.

2:00 PM - Tropic Mayhem – Serving up some good old classic rock’n’roll with a beachy feeling, always in demand for private functions, they make sure all in attendance have a good time.

3:00 PM - Malakai - Now at the age of 14, this young man is breaking into his stride and now with more of his original tunes and his excellent choices of covers that you should be made aware of.

4:00 PM - Trip ‘n’ Me – Mary and Craig bring their original tunes to the stage and some covers that might just have you singing along to, maybe even dancing?

4:20 PM - Canada Day cake cutting & sharing – sponsored by Real Canadian Super Store

5:00 PM - McCandless Family Band – Chuck and his family are of Irish descent and it comes thru in their foot tappin’ sing along musical journeys of originals and covers.

6:00 PM - The Porter Brothers – They have the essence of pure rock’n’roll in their well crafted and extremely finely delivered country/farm roots style rock music.

7:00 PM - Ryan McMahon - Ryan has carved out an almost 20-year career as an independent artist in Canada’s vibrant music scene, a genre fence sitter, hanging out on the edges of country just enough to say he isn’t, Ryan is both a whisper and a scream.

8:15 PM - Brandon Isaak Trio - This guy lives and breathes the blues. Brandon is an authentic, heartfelt roots and blues songster who always delivers the goods - be it as his one-man band, his dynamic duo, or his hard-hitting trio as we get this evening, you always get 100% of this artist.  https://www.brandonisaak.ca/

Noon - Don Wilke – A slack key enthusiast, national steel player and songwriter with intent to entertain.

1:00 PM - Simon Sayz – Not only does this guy know who Diamond Joe White is, he sings some of his tunes as well some covers of other great song writers.

2:00 PM - Old Growth – Andy Ruszel has gathered a couple of musical friends from Victoria to aid him presenting his original tunes plus some very cool Americana songs that needs be heard.

3:00 PM - Russell Wellner & Friends - Well penned originals and very engaging deliveries of those songs, from Victoria.

4:00 PM - Rae & Scott - When two voices find each other and R&B/ soul music is their bonding, we the audience win big time (especially when one of them is Scott McGill).

5:00 PM - Sarah-Jayne Riley – A stellar singer / songwriter from the Peterborough Ont. area planned her return visit to the west coast so we could fit her into our schedule.

6:00 PM - Mahogany - Bringing together influences from modern jazz, contemporary rhythm and blues, and funk and soul, the music of Mahogany is a celebration of the band's influences. 

7:00 PM - Daniel Cook and the Radiators – Victoria’s roots- country island rock has a slight pop feeling, their original approach to songwriting helps us appreciate life just a bit better.

8:15 PM - The Pretzel Logic Orchestra - They are Canada's live tribute to Steely Dan and a labour of love for its nine members These guys have the chops it takes to interpret the complex and quirky material of the iconic 70's songwriting partnership of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Fusing jazz sensibility with the rhythms of rock, pop and R&B, Steely Dan created a sophisticated sound that remains unique in music history and produced some of the most memorable and timeless songs of the decade. https://www.facebook.com/pretzellogicorchestra

Noon - Just Jim – The folk /pop song jukebox, he brings many favorite songs to the stage in a folk kinda way.

1:00 PM - Choralina Chante – Performing at many farm markets south of our valley, she brings her style of vocal healing thru her music.

2:00 PM - Lip Forest - Northern Saskatchewan boy now a Cowichan Valley home owner that writes and sings about those northern roots.

3:00 PM - Warmland Dance – Innovative performing arts education in the Cowichan Valley, they are here to demonstrate.       

4:00 PM - The Youngs – Local doctor and his wife turn out to be pretty good folk singers (think Oscar Brand and Let’s Sing Out era). 

5:00 PM - Megan Maria Trio - As a trio today, Paul Jutras on drums and Hayden Johnson on bass, island-style music flows through her blend of Spanish and English songwriting. Expect everything from ukulele cha-cha to beautiful piano waltzes accompanied by a unique vocal talent.

6:00 PM - Steph McPherson – Calling Victoria home, this singer / songwriter has grabbed our attention since we first heard her a couple years back, you will enjoy her, of that we are sure - a voice you will remember, singing lyrics that allow the imagery to shine thru, she is one of our special musical treats.

7:00 PM - Paul Black Band  -  Raised on gospel and country, Paul played in rock bands until the defining moment when he was given tickets to see Stevie Ray Vaughn, from then on it was nothing but the blues, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters. Paul soaked up everything he could get his hands on. Great way to end the first festival Monday in the park and a long weekend as well!

Tues. July 4th

@ THE VITALS STAGE IN THE PARK:

Noon - Dennis Atkins - Has been a regular lunch hour show since we started, his countrified approach to roots music wins people’s hearts - come listen why.

1:00 PM - Scott McGill – Singer/guitar player/teacher/songwriter and with those high vocals he does, wow, catch this show.

2:00 PM - Reuben Shephard - A young singer / songwriter who has attended the Showroom’s Dress Rehearsal Tuesdays-open mic and impressed us enough we wanted to showcase him at the festival this year.

3:00 PM - Kathy White Dancers – Teachers and young students demonstrate what they have learned this last year.

4:00 PM - Terry Wicks & Friends – A singer/songwriter/producer/recording engineer he has a penchant for the blues as he will show us tonight with some originals and a few covers joined by some musical friends.

5:00 PM - Carol Sokoloff & Trio Espresso - radiates a rare warmth with her burnished vocal technique singing her jazzy blues choices.

6:00 PM - James Vickers Band – James is a 14 year old blues singer/ guitarist from Nanaimo who is tearing up the dance floor at the Queen’s Sunday afternoon Blues Jams these last 2 years with his weekly appearances – introduced to Duncan audiences at last year’s 39 Days by fellow 14 year old Malakai.

7:00 PM - The Helen Davies Band -  Curl has changed their band name and a bit of the line up and still here to rock you out with their blues standards and originals.

8:15 PM - Aline’s Etoile Magique - Aline is one of Canada’s finest jazz violinists and was a finalist for the 2022 Toronto Emerging Jazz Artist Award. She is releasing and touring her first project as a leader, “Aline’s étoile magique” across Canada this summer. https://www.alinehomzy.com/

 

Weds. July 5th

Noon - Dale Manason - A veteran musician, he brings his stellar guitar playing and vocal capabilities performed to self produced back tracks.

1:00 PM - Gravitation – Bill Hamilton has teamed up with his friend Burke Rosen to bring us some fine ‘folk’ music.

2:00 PM - Cara McCandless - A powerhouse singer and super songwriter make for one heck of an entity on stage ready to entertain you.

3:00 PM - Duncan Does Have Talent - OPEN MIC – Please make sure you sign up as soon as you can for one of the 8 slots available (1 song each).

4:00 PM - Brandy Moore – A singer/songwriter and song interpreter with over 25 years of performing experience, she has appeared in Europe, Latin America, the United States and Canada.

5:00 PM - Ian Skorscha - From Argentina and a member of the band Entagados, this guitar playing whiz has been writing up some new songs which we get to hear.

6:00 PM - Corrina Keeling – They have a voice that searches for your soul so it might captivate you and take you on musical journey that they feel you should go on.

7:00 PM - Kids Today - Hammond organ / drums – they approach the ‘true value of such a collaboration’ as a wonderful adventure - Their 6th year at the festival!

7:30 PM - Daniel Lapp w/ Jeanne Tolmie - Daniel is a fiddle player extraordinaire and he said we must hear this singer he has been working with lately and when Daniel says ‘pay attention’ we should!

8:30 PM - Ashley Wey Trio - A very fine jazz singer/pianist and songwriter that has her husband on stand up bass and their best friend on drums, an evening to be enjoyed.

 

Thurs. July 6th

@ THE VITALS STAGE IN THE PARK:

Noon - Andy McCormick - His collection/selection of K-Tel hits takes us all back to the days when we first heard these tunes and surprisingly we are all singing along.

1:00 PM - Jaclyn Childs – Folk noire in all of its glory.

2:00 PM - Christian Bergen - Singer/songwriter and main man behind Renfrew Road duo/band brings his solo show to the stage.

3:00 PM - Canada’s Best Karate – The students are always way excited to come demonstrate their new found skills as taught by Sensei Jordan.

4:00 PM - The Ranters – A local folk duo with an auto harp / mandolins / guitar and harmonies and a wonderful repertoire of folk covers.

5:00 PM - Clarissa Rodger - A young, local singer, she brings the Drew Brothers as her back-up band as she sings some her favourite songs for your entertainment.

6:00 PM - Joe Stanton – From the Sunshine Coast we convinced this fine singer/songwriter to venture over to the valley with his guitar and well written originals. Joe is also a very good storyteller!

7:00 PM - Firebird - Three local singer/songwriters join together to bring some very fine folk music to the world, they come highly recommended.

Fri. July 7th

@ THE VITALS STAGE IN THE PARK:

Noon - Simon Sayz - With a voice smooth like sandpaper he brings passion to the covers he chooses.

1:00 PM - Lennon – A valley mainstay, rapper to a busker doing covers, Lennon does it all.

2:00 PM - Linda Tesser - Familiar tunes sung with passion along with freshly written originals thrown into the mix.

3:00 PM - Carlson’s Dance – A valley dance institution they have stayed with the times, their weekly showcases at the festival will amaze you.

4:00 PM - Level Crossing – Some fine music that jumps genres by Mike Regimbal -guitars / Dee Cooper -keysboards / Wayne Briscoe -drums.

5:00 PM - Low Winter Sun - Guitar and cello driven rock from this 4 piece band from Victoria,...quite pleasant, check them out their recent concert on YouTube Duncan Showroom channel.

6:00 PM - Stone Poets – A trio, they create exceptionally moving music that genuinely matters – t heir new album HUMAN drops August 31. Join them to hear their new music as well songs from their body of work.

7:00 PM - Pinebox Rebellion - These seasoned players have their own genre, kinda rockish indie pop that works real well and creates a fun energy and they have been recording new tunes as of late.

8:15 PM - Let The Good Times Roll - Local boys are big Cars fans and even tho there is no one on keyboards these guys will make it work, their love of this music shines ( you will be surprised how many songs you remember).

11:00 AM - Zumba w/ Roslyn - Hopefully this year we’ll see the men get out here as well and bust some moves!

Noon - Cowichan Valley Harmonica Band - One is never too old to be in a band and have fun entertaining audiences. .

1:00 PM - Iain Bell – A singer/songwriter from Victoria that Renfrew Road recommended, 2nd year at our festival.

2:00 PM - Dave Darling - An old style crooner, he brings the past to the present.

3:00 PM - Renfrew Road – A songwriting duo living in Shawnigan Lake raising their new family and their music reflects this wonderful process.

4:00 PM - Salty Dog – Roots country, almost Americana, they have been putting in the time to bring it all to the stage, think ol’ timey music kinda feel.

5:00 PM - Elise Boulanger - Chamber-Folk-Pop artist, a bilingual multi-instrumentalist and environmental advocate that creates cinematic dreamscapes.

6:00 PM - The Awakeneers – Honest vocals sweetened with multi part harmonies and supported by rich acoustic instrumentation, a nomadic band of multi-instrumentalist songwriters, most of whom are siblings.

7:00 PM - The Ecclestons - ‘Full Contact Folk’ best describes what they bring to the stage and after fourteen years together as a band siblings Colleen (guitar and vocals) Kelt (bass, penny whistle, and vocals) and adopted brother Greg Madill (bouzouki, mandolin, bodhran and vocals) are here to entertain in their very enthusiastic celtic fashion.

8:15 PM - Marimba Muzuva - One develops a love for marimba music, it moves your soul and your body, yes, dancing is something you will want to do so come prepared to let yourself randomly boogie.

Sun. July 9th - Saltspring Island Invasion

Noon - John Charles - senior folkie singing songs in the genre of Americana - songs of love, life and concerns about our common future. .

1:00 PM - Ashley Bachman – A diverse multi-instrumentalist, he works to blend west coast roots and folk music with sultry reggae elements.    

2:00 PM - Caoimhe Merrick - Growing up in Dublin and playing piano she switched to guitar when she arrived on the island – she is grounded with her mother earth and sings songs of hope.

3:00 PM - Fawkes & Hownd – Intimate folk duo that are purely authentic, blending Canadian and American roots, Phöenix Lazare and Justin Kelley have created a songwriting style that dives deep with their affectionate harmonies layered above shimmering guitar work.

4:00 PM - K-Tones – Master flautist with keyboards being aided by electronica produce some very fine renditions of favourite tunes and some well written originals.

5:00 PM - Marianne Grittani Band - A recent concert at the Duncan Showroom solidified her return to the festival, great songs, fantastic harmonies and extremely engaging with her audiences.

6:00 PM - Kathy Stack Trio – The songs are a mixture of love, struggle and story songs, some about island characters, her family and California friends, there is a wide spectrum of styles - Tom Bowler, Dave Roland join her.

7:00 PM - Daryl Chonka - 4 piece band - all original world folk and canadiana with a touch of the psychedelia, there is a good chance you will be dancing on the grass to the great grooves they create.

 

Mon. July 10th

Noon - Blu & Kelly Hopkins - On the island from the interior, these touring troubadours are the real deal.

1:00 PM - Paul Ruszel – Local folk singer/songwriter that writes of a better world.

2:00 PM - Amanda Nixon - From Lake Cowichan, a beautiful voice bursting with soul, her home town has awarded her and so will you.

3:00 PM - Warmland Dance – World-class faculty of experienced, passionate professional leaders, choreographers, educators and performers will entice you to become a student upon witnessing what they teach.

4:00 PM - From The Earth – Vancouver Island based alternative-island-folk duo with uplifting harmonies, catchy ballads, and a wide variety of original and unique cover material.

5:00 PM - Jocelyn Petit - World toured dynamic fiddler, with step dancing abilities and a very dynamic cellist will make this concert a most memorable dynamic experience.

6:00 PM - Malleus Trio – Seamlessly weaving together high octane improvisation with original compositions executed by a musical rapport forged over more than a decade, quite exciting.

7:00 PM - Polky - Created by courageous Polish ladies, singer Ewelina Ferenc, dancer Ala Stasiuk and multi instrumentalist Marta Solek. Polky meaning “Polish women” – they came together through a shared passion for Eastern European music’s enigmatic and upbeat style- along with three Canadian musicians they come to raise your spirits.

 

Tues. July 11th

Noon - Tania Hill & Scott McGill - A student and teacher like to perform for us each year, come give a listen, most heartwarming.

1:00 PM - Kate Elyse – From Australia to the Valley, singing the path of the heart, this songstress will guide you home with her heart songs of devotion.

2:00 PM - Jared Soulfire - Singer/songwriter from the valley ,there is a softness about this young man that comes out in his original and his choice of covers keeps your attention.

3:00 PM - Kathy White Dancers – Bring along those cameras for sure.

4:00 PM - Anneda – Exploring the history of the blues from the deep south, Anneda shares some iconic blues songs that shaped modern music today.

5:00 PM - Brandon Isaak - This boy cannot only play the blues oh so well, he writes songs that will become blues classics in their own sweet time.

6:00 PM - David Vest – Multi award winner, the original boogie-woogie starchild rockin' and shoutin' the blues since 1957, comes to Duncan.

7:00 PM - South Island Rythm Kings - Maple Blues Award nominees, they bring the energy for you to boogie.

 

Wed. July 12th

@ THE VITALS STAGE IN THE PARK:

Noon - Naomi Payan - Originally from France and now raising her family in the Cowichan Valley, she is ready to bust out all her new tunes recently penned as well as her earlier works.

1:00 PM - Without A Net – Can’t be folk music without having some politics attached, in a style of Pete Seeger / Woody Guthrie.

2:00 PM - Charlie K -A life of stories to be told thru song, Charlie does that well.

3:00 PM - Duncan Does Have Talent - OPEN MIC – Please make sure you sign up as soon as you can for one of the 8 slots available (1 song each).

4:00 PM - Kimberly MacGregor – A reformed bank manager, Kimberley realized she was doing a successful job of living someone else’s life—and a poor job living her own so in 2013, she launched her original songs into the world and took centre stage. Now an island resident, she is a performer to witness.

5:00 PM - Bob Johns - A founding member of Bluegrass Fever, he also has a roots/country music styled solo career.

6:00 PM - North Easton – An award winning prolific singer songwriter bringing a roller coaster level of dynamics to his music and live performance.

7:00 PM - Clana Morna - From high-energy instrumentals to slow ballads, drinking songs to sea shanties, Clana Morna brings a unique west coast influence to Celtic & English folk.

@ THE CITY SQUARE STAGE:

7:30 PM - Unfaithful Servants - These guys have quickly gained a reputation in Western Canada as an in demand festival band and a must-see act. With an original and exciting approach to traditional music, the group serves up explosive instrumentals, compelling story-telling and high powered vocals.

 8:30 PM - Ric Scott & Nico Rhodes “Roots & Grooves” - incredible musicians, wonderful entertainers, warm hearted humour! Veteran dulcimer ace Rick Scott and young keyboard wizard Nico Rhodes join forces in an inter-generational smorgasbord of folk, boogie-woogie, jazz and blues.

Thur. July 13th

@ THE VITALS STAGE IN THE PARK:

Noon - Trip ‘n’ Me - A local duo that know how to write great songs and do covers of the ones everyone likes.

1:00 PM - Andy McCormick – A K-Tel Hits jukebox of very memorable tunes and a marvelous journey.

2:00 PM - Anneda - First heard her at our Saturday Farmers Market years ago from off in a distance, her vocals drew me in closer so as to discover who it was, and here she is, still showcasing her magnificent vocals at our festival years later.

3:00 PM - Matoto – A local West African drum / dance troupe coming to showcase what their team of teachers and students can do- there is a part where you can join if you so choose.

4:00 PM - James Hamilton & Guests – The sounds of a sitar in the late afternoon outdoors and sometimes with a guest singer and possibly a belly dancer.

5:00 PM - Richard Moody - A transplanted Manitoban, he is solo, voice and guitar performing from a recent musical release Tobacco and Rose.

6:00 PM - Norman Foote with special guest Malakai – By nature a kid’s performer, Norman’s work was also designed for adults and joining him will be his new musical friend Malakai.

7:00 PM - Whitey Somers - Very cool original electric and acoustic blues and roots music done oh so well, a continued fave at our Blues on Tuesdays of past so we had have come back to the festival.

 8:15 PM - Barba Lica - As a quintet -Canadian jazz singer and songwriter based in Toronto, she was named one of Canada's top upcoming female jazz artists. https://barbralicamusic.com/

Noon - Trevor Price - Singer/songwriter who works in the valley and lives in Nanaimo and darn he writes some really good tunes.

1:00 PM - Steady-Rollin’ Jay – He likes to re write some of the old blues songs to suit his fashion....very enjoyable banter to go along.

2:00 PM - Chuck McCandless - A true troubadour, he brings folk music to the stage in all facets, a fixture at our festival.

3:00 PM - Carlson’s Dance – Gonna be some hip hop / break dancing for sure.

4:00 PM - Snuff & The Snufftones – R&B, old blues standards, mixed up and shakin’-done up in a fast rockin’ way.

5:00 PM - Slim Sandy and the Hillbilly Boppers - Plays roots music and gut bucket hillbilly boogie.

6:00 PM - Chris Andres – Multi award winning alt/country, rugged, ragged and most fulfilling to the soul.

7:00 PM - Born Reckless - Country rock band from Victoria that writes real good tunes and are very much worth watching.

 8:15 PM - Zappostrophe - This exciting new project explores the demanding music of the iconoclastic composer Frank Zappa. Choosing selections from different eras of Frank’s career, the music is played with excitement, precision, and humour by an 8 piece band from Vancouver.

11:00 AM - Zumba w/ Roslyn - Gets you going in the morning!

Noon - Ukululus - Letting the ukuleles come to the forefront as these musicians sing some memorable standards for your enjoyment.

1:00 PM - The 4 Cowichan Lake Tenors – The name kinda says it all, should be a great listening performance.

2:00 PM - Cowichan Pipes & Drums - The marching band’s sit down concert complete with a keyboardist and electric bass player, these folks are always a hit.

3:00 PM - James Meyer – Watching this young man take to the stage over the years as he has done has been so awesome (and now he teaches) always an entertaining show that we never know till the last minute.

4:00 PM - Pony Gold – West Coast Americana band Pony Gold deliver timeless and refreshing songs about escapism, purpose, love and loss.  The duo’s sound, led by lead songwriter and singer Theresa Bromley and guitarist Matt Bromley, emphasizes vocals and slide guitar with an alt country attitude that lands between Lucinda Williams, and Tedeschi Trucks Band.

5:00 PM - Actual Human People - From Victoria, their unique approach to indie folk utilizes ambient textures and lush harmonies, and has quickly garnered a small but passionate fanbase in their home city.

7:00 PM - Shale - A polished alternative young rock band from Victoria, their recent videos are getting them much acclaim and we thought you might like to check them out again.

 8:15 PM - Nautical Disaster - They do their damndest to sound just like the original material. they jam regularly to stay tight on the songs and gel as a group, so when their lead singer gets going on a lengthy improvised rant on the outro to "Looking for a place to happen" the band can just keep things rolling seamlessly. The frontman has some big shoes to fill, but the Gord above is smiling because Ryan does a good job.

1:00 PM - The Blunder Brothers – The Lantzville boys arrive again to showcase their memorable melodic well crafted songwriting abilities and well executed deliveries.

2:00 PM - The Konsorados - Donna and Bill bring much instrumentation to the stage and along with their vocals they deliver up mostly songs written by Donna herself... Countrified folk for sure.

3:00 PM - Allen Dobb – Roots alt-country genre is where this island performer feels most comfortable writing and singing his well penned originals.

4:00 PM - Wayne Kozak Quartet – Sax player extraordinaire, whatever songs Wayne brings to the festival, we the listener get the finest of musical journeys.

5:00 PM - The Big Mess – Blues / funk / latin / broadway / techno / jazz / trip-hop / swing /  rock, somehow they are able to smoosh all of this together into a full blown musical spectacle. Their performance blends theatrics, technology and improvisation.

6:00 PM - Ryan Oliver Trio - Juno awarded saxophone player along with a visiting Juno awarded drummer adding in super bass player from the island, we will experience a musical treat.

7:00 PM - Dance Temple Cowichan - Ali and Chris have put together an awesome electronic music thang playing tasteful African inspired music with lots of love and live samples with Chris’s grooved percussion. Sure to be extremely danceable.

2:00 PM - Mitchell Sisters - Metis sisters originally from North Bay Ontario travel up from Victoria to sing in their family harmony styling with originals and some folk covers.

3:00 PM - Warmland Dance – Collaborative community fostering creativity, a love of the arts and excellence among peers.

4:00 PM - Angelina Holland – Academically approaching her musical career as she is will be a benefit to the world, a splendid voice and a warm heart, this young local singer/ songwriter should be witnessed.

5:00 PM - Zach Thompson – A local singer/songwriter who released a debut CD recently.

6:00 PM - The Woodley Range Band - An acoustic/electric band, offering up a rich mix of country, roots and blues featuring 3 vocalists with harmonies delivered with an "easy on the ears" sound that crowds have come to love - guitar, mandolin, pedal steel, harmonica and slide guitar, providing familiar classics to engaging originals.

7:00 PM - Ty Koch w/ Nico Rhodes - A young singer from the mainland that performs a variety of musical genres exceptionally well including blues, rock and classical music accompanied by the great Nico Rhodes on keyboard.

3:00 PM - Judy Hogg Celtic Rhythm Dancers – These students work so hard to do their best, so come cheer on their high-stepping highland dancing.

4:00 PM - James Hamilton w/ Special Guests – Sitar music in the park, makes for a nice day.

5:00 PM - AWOLz – Not for the faint of heart, well crafted indie rock with volume, just to throw it into the mix of the day, punkish to the bone just cuz.

6:00 PM - Moonlight Talkers - Two local singer/songwriters, Cara McCandless and Naomi Payan of PixElle, join forces with a new project – we are sure you will enjoy.

7:00 PM - The Lost Talkers - A collective of Victoria musicians who have come together so that they may write, record and perform what they like to call West Coast Roots music. Combining elements of folk, blues, bluegrass and traditional music, they have crafted a distinct sound that’s hard to label but easy to enjoy.

4:00 PM - Genevieve Charbonneau – Recent release of a new single, that has been critically acclaimed, this valley resident needs people to know of what caliber of talent resides in our community.

2:00 PM - Theda Phoenix - A recent resident of Duncan, Theda is a classically trained vocalist with a passion for improvisation as she will show during her performance.

3:00 PM - Steps Ahead – Ballet, modern contemporary, pointe, tap, acrobatic arts, street, jazz, broadway, conditioning, musical movement, and pre-school dance and these are some of their students.

4:00 PM - Bex Troock – Okanagan-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist performing indie acoustic soul/roots/folk- her repertoire of original and cover music is large, eclectic and crowd pleasing.

5:00 PM - Lavender & Lefty – Telling stories about robberies and road trips, jailbreaks and heartaches, your best dog and your worst date. Multi-instrumentalists armed with an array of guitar, upright bass, mandolin, clawhammer banjo, voices and words!

6:00 PM - Salome Cullen - This 18 year old young man from Saltspring Island has a handle on roots/alt- country that will raise the hairs on your body – yes, we will be hearing more about this guy in the near future.

7:00 PM - Jesse Whiteley & Rob Forman w/ special guest Pat Temple - Jesse on piano is of the Whitely clan of fantastic musicians and being the youngest of 3, he is making a name for himself as more than a sideman with his original music, same with Rob Foreman, another superb sideman yet a songwriter and arranger himself and then maybe a song or two with guitarist Pat Temple.

3:00 PM - Judy Hogg Celtic Rhythm Dancers – Such wonderful young dancers with such intent.

4:00 PM - Steve Cutler – An articulate singer who does remarkable cover versions of cool songs and hopefully some of his originals get performed.

5:00 PM - Nice Verdes – a duo from Australia, veterans of our festival, have been in Canada for an extended tour this past while and we love to present their gypsy style again.

6:00 PM - Anneda & Josh - Anneda and her husband Josh perform together in the PIGS band, a tribute to Pink Floyd, and during a recent performance in Victoria tied the knot on stage during the show.... and yes they perform wonderful mostly original music for us to enjoy.

3:00 PM - Carlson’s Dance – Always fun to watch.

4:00 PM - Terry Marshall – Acoustic guitar solo singer of great cover tunes, in the band Sutcliffes out of Victoria.

5:00 PM - Ben Sures – A very fine and witty singer/songwriter, superb guitar player bringing along a stand up bass playing accompanist.

4:00 PM - Jemma and the Good Thing - Island-grown folk-pop based on Cortes island, she ventures to Duncan to showcase her lastest recording project produced by Corwin Fox.

Noon - Lip Forest - Good songwriting, solid deliveries makes for a funtastic folk music presentation, now a valley home owner he sings of his northern Saskatchewan upbringing.

1:00 PM - Charlie K - Coming up from Sooke to bring his take on folk/roots music as it pertains to his life’s stories.

2:00 PM - Trevor Davies - A local musician who was in his first band when 15, has graduated from Viu Jazz program, lived/ performed in Montreal for some years and is now back in the valley with new songs for you to hear.

3:00 PM - Kathy White Dancers - Quite the exhibit of Scottish dance by all ages.

4:00 PM - Steady-Rollin’ Jay - A man and his acoustic guitar sittin’ on a stage chasing the blues away, he has a wonderful perspective on life.

5:00 PM - Blue Hearts - Duo Hank Lionheart and Mark Comerford bring an authenticity to the delivering of their blues tunage that makes witnessing them a treat.

6:00 PM - Mark Crissinger - Guitar playing Mark and his bass playing buddy Jay do regular gigs around mid-island that keep their blues fans quite happy - a Maple Blues Award and VIMA nominee who blends traditional themes, clever lyrics, and modern arrangements on his original roots /blues tunage.

7:00 PM - Thor Jonsson Band - Thor has called the valley home for quite awhile now and has brought his brand of blues guitar playing to many people - always surrounded with stellar players, no better way to end this Blues on Tuesday series.

Noon - Brian Gauci - The man plays gentle, meandering instrumental guitar compositions that allow you to sit back and enjoy the moment even more.

1:00 PM - Jon Mack - From Sooke,  not only does he photographically document who performs at the festival when he is around but we get him up on stage with his buddy Derrick to perform a mix of classic rock / blues / folk / and originals  – Derricks guitar adds some jazzy undertones to Jonny’s originals.

2:00 PM - Two Wheeler - Nancy Potvin and her musical friends in Victoria have this amazing trio which we had to have at the festival.

3:00 PM - Duncan Does Have Talent (Open Mic) - Only 8 slots per open mic so make sure you have signed up if you want the time do one song on stage.

4:00 PM - Jonathon Churcher - This seer/songwriter's imagery-rich, narrative songs speak of his various lives in the UK, USA, Western Arctic, and Cowichan and Chemainus valleys. "Life has a way of teaching hearts how to expand.”

5:00 PM - Sue Decker Quartet - Slide guitar is where this gal shines, while presenting her original tunes she brings great players with her to up the ante.

6:00 PM - Sundown - These three guys from Nanaimo gathered together last year to sing the songs of Gordon Lightfoot.

7:00 PM - Sharon Bailey Trio - From Saltspring Island, her country tunes have a homey feel to them, like they cut straight to the heart – we think you will enjoy this well delivered music.

 7:30 PM - Malakai - 14 years old now, he continues to bring life to music as only he can, multi- instrumentalist and deepening vocal range, come prepared to be in awe of his stage presence and deliveries.

 8:30 PM - Downtown Mischief - This 7 piece band is from Victoria, “part funk, part jazz, part rhymin' Downtown Mischief comes thru Slidin'!”... a driving, pulsing machine that explodes with life on, always a dancing hit at our past festivals, bringing their freshness and exuberance back to the valley.

1:00 PM - Christian Bergen - An island singer/ songwriter living in the valley that will be back in the studio real soon.

2:00 PM - Katrina Kadoski - Besides writing/producing/performing the awarded Cougar Annie Tales, she is an extremely fine songwriter and singer from the get go.

3:00 PM - Glenora Farm Handbell Choir - A treat to find a slot for this ensemble, they bring freshness to a very rewarding afternoon performance, circle this one if you can and be here/hear.

4:00 PM - Leenie Beenie - Such joy for being alive comes from this singer/songwriter, she lights fires at the Duncan Showroom open mic and everyone feels that energy that is delivered, you will too.

5:00 PM - Andy Cooke - A songwriters songwriter, this valley resident is most pleasant to listen to.

6:00 PM - Ed Peekeekoot – Of the Cree Nation, gentle local singer / songwriter / guitar player / flautist and well respected entertainer (and a great carver / artist ).

7:00 PM - Cats Meow - Guitarist Al Eskelson has brought together some fine musicians to this jazzy project.

Noon - Dennis Atkins - A regular to our festival, he has the voice that makes country music sound real good, writes some great roots tunes and covers a few thangs you will surely like.

1:00 PM - Don Wilke - A slack key enthusiast, national steel player and songwriter with intent to entertain.

2:00 PM - Choralina Chante - A musical healer, she brings positive and intuitive songs to the festival.

3:00 PM - Carlson’s Dance - For sure you will go home and attempt some of the moves you see!

4:00 PM - Graham Strang / Leenie - Freshly returning from their first cross country ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ tour, two young west coasters, that totally enjoy performing, planned their tour around our festival date – come see why we agreed.

5:00 PM - Andrea Smith - A vocal treat and pretty good guitar player, graduate of the VIU Jazz program years back, she continues to express her environmental and humanity concerns thru her music.

6:00 PM - Eric Harper - Guitarist extraordinaire and a great storyteller too. Always a hit at the festival!

7:00 PM - Murray Atkinson Trio - From Ladysmith and the lead guitarist for Canada’s legendary ‘Odds’, Murray has his own little project, another good and loud power trio featuring his songwriting skills.

 8:15 PM - Beatlemania Unplugged - A local vocal acoustic Beatles tribute band that perform songs from the Beatlemania era. From the Beatles first album Please Please Me to their sixth album Rubber Soul, Beatlemania Unplugged replicate the John, Paul, and George vocals as on the original recordings.

3:00 PM - Glen Foster Group - Their original songs range from intricate finger-picking ballads and country-flavored pop to highly creative electric rock.

4:00 PM - The Stolen Hearts - Based out of Surrey BC, their material is 100% original and their sound has been described as modern rockabilly with blues and country flavoring.

5:00 PM - Hell Katz - Local rockabilly trio that brings it to the stage just-a-flyin.’

1:00 PM - Iain Duncan Trio - From Saltspring, Iain Duncan - saxophone and congas, Nick Peck – organ, Miles Fuller – drums - some fine times will be had with these guys happening.

2:00 PM - Tim Johnson Quartet - A small jazz ensemble from Pender Island, BC. playing original music and a range of standards in various jazz modes including bebop, hard bop, swing, funk, Latin and blues.

3:00 PM - Jan Sterling Trio – Jazz pianist from Victoria, supplies us with a solid trio with Jeremy Sagar on bass and James McRae on drums to take us on her particularly marvelous musical journeys.

4:00 PM - Frederika Ionescu Quintet - Born and raised in Queens, New York and now living on Vancouver Island, Frederika graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from Vancouver Island University in Jazz Studies - her music career started in the Classical realm with violin and piano and she devotes her time to teaching and singing jazz and its many subgenres.

5:00 PM - Ashley Wey Trio - World travelled jazz pianist and vocalist has a dream trio that will captivate you immediately, a yearly highlight to the festival.

6:00 PM - Lady O and the Omen - Jazz trio featuring the Cowichan Valley’s own Lady O on vocals and stand up bass, Nico Rhodes on keys and James McRae on drums.

5:00 PM - Bill Levity - Poet / thespian / singer / songwriter who enjoys sharing glimpses of his inner self he has invited Eugene Smith / Leenie Beenie and possibly others to join him (and he performed in the play earlier in the day- role reversals 101).

6:00 PM - Jonas Shandel - Frontman and co-founder of the Vancouver band Headwater that toured extensively across North America and Europe / five years starring as Johnny Cash in ‘Ring of Fire’ and ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ at the Chemainus Theatre which lead to performances at The Arts Club Theatre and Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, among others – his performances are always full of heart, humour, melodic and captivating songs that almost fall into their own unique genre as they are timeless, yet familiar and tell many beautiful stories. Expect to be charmed.

7:00 PM - Smokestacks - 6 piece band of young blues players from Victoria are keeping the blues alive and were awarded by the Victoria Blues Society the admission to attend this year’s prestigious Hornby Blues Camp – they are coming to aid us in dancing out this year’s festival!
